The roles women have played in the creations of Mozart and other artists

J. Drouin, Montréal, Canada

Mozart has been influenced in his creations by many women ; 1- his mother Anna-Maria Pertl has been the reason for many pieces : the Variations on " Ah ! vous dirais-je, Maman " and the clarinette concerto and many others. 2- His sister, Nannerl, on at least 2 occasions. 3- His cousin Theca, notorious for the correspondance that he had with her. 4- The 4 Weber sisters that provided : Aloysia his first love for whom he wrote considerable parts in his arias and in his operas. Constance who became his wife ; Josepha another good singer who sang some arias written for her and Sophia who played an important role at the end of his life.

There will be some mention of the place of women in the creations of Bethoven (The eternal beloved), Schubert (the abstinence of relations with women), Schumann (the role played by Clara), Chopin (George Sand), Tchaikovsky (the countess) and Richard Strauss (his wife as an inspiration).

Among the painters, we will look at he women that have played a role in the works of Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh. The reciprocal influences of Rodin and Camille Claudel will be developped. And finally how two women have influenced the life and the entire litterary production of Emile Zola.
